The Fire Fighters Charity
The Fire Fighters Charity is here for all fire service personnel, during their times of need, and assists over 13,000 individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.
The Fire Fighters Charity is a modern, dynamic and award-winning Charity, with three UK centres, located in Cumbria, Devon and West Sussex, which offer varying combinations of therapy and recuperation services. Our pioneering new Beneficiary Support Services also offers local and remote assistance to people in need nationwide.
Therapy
The Charity offers residential therapy programmes at centres in Cumbria and Devon. Run by teams of dedicated professionals, both therapy centres offer a wide range of treatments, including exercise therapy and physiotherapy. More recently, the Charity has also begun to develop services for members of the public who have suffered burns injuries. It is in the fire communities nature to try to help as many people as possible, and so the Charity will now assist a small number of adult and child burns victims.
Recuperation
Illness, injury, bereavement or other problems can place tremendous strain on serving or retired fire service personnel and their families, and the intensity of the unique profession often creates difficulties which can be a struggle to cope with. The Charity has recuperation facilities at all three of its UK centres, giving individuals and families the opportunity to get their lives back on track through emotional and physical recovery.
Support Services
Whilst thousands of people every year visit one of the Charities three centres for therapy or recuperation services, some need help in other ways. The Charity has recently launched a pioneering new Beneficiary Support Service, which puts in place trained volunteers and professionals nationwide, with the aim of helping people locally. A confidential and impartial helpline service is also provided, offering advice and support on a wide range of, both work related and personal, issues.
One Voice
The Charity has recently begun to campaign on issues of fire safety, and is committed to helping make the country a safer place to live. The Charity cares for thousands of fire fighters every year, and so is acutely aware of the dangers they face. If the Charity's campaigning protects one fire fighter or member of the general public from death or injury, then we will have succeeded.
The Fire Fighters Charity is now helping a record number of serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.
Jims Story
Shropshire based firefighter Jim Barker badly damaged his cruciate knee ligament, and attended the Charities Jubilee Therapy Centre in order to regain his fitness after this career-threatening injury.
Jim explains:
You never know when you might need the Charity, but it's incredibly reassuring to know that its there for you and the family you're supporting. I'm back to work much quicker than I would have been if the Charity hadn't been here to help me. From first-hand experience I know that only when you need the support of the Charity do you realise how important the Charity is to fire fighters trying to rehabilitate after injury.
