We thought we would put this together to explain the confusion some visitors are having in relation to which ribbon bars they are allowed to wear.

Firstly, the Golden Jubilee Medal was awarded to eligible members of the Fire and Rescue Service as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002. The primary criterion for eligibility was the completion of five years service (which could be aggregated with a period of service with another eligible service or the military) on 6th February 2002.

The Diamond Jubilee Medal is to be awarded to emergency services personnel who have been in paid service, retained or in a voluntary capacity, who have to face the prospect of dealing with emergencies as part of their conditions of service, and have completed five full calendar years of service on 6 February 2012.

The Fire Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is awarded to members of the Fire and Rescue Service who have completed 20 years continuous service and have demonstrated, during this period their good conduct, loyalty and devotion to duty.

If you joined the service before the 6th February 1997, and are still in the service, you are eligible to wear the double Golden and Jubilee Ribbon Bar.

If you joined the service on or before the 6th February 2007 and are still in service, then you can wear the Single Diamond Jubilee Ribbon Bar.

Those who have completed 20 years or more service can wear the Triple Golden Jubilee / Diamond Jubilee / Long Service and Good Conduct Ribbon Bar.

All the combinations of these ribbon bars are available within our online store.

Just in case you hadn’t noticed, things have changed around here a little. Not only do we now have a Blog, but the entire UK Fire Service Resources site has undergone a massive change.

If you’re a regular visitor, then things will look a bit different: you might want to take some time to explore the site and get used to the new look and feel. If you’re new – well, hello and thank you for visiting.

What you’re seeing on UK Fire Service Resources is the result of a lot of hard work. It is also part of a wider change in the way we work and bring information to you, now and in the future.

The result is that we can better showcase our work and point you to the topics that matter – but the changes aren’t just cosmetic. The backend of the system is now all held in a database, allowing us to keep pages in the relevant sections as well as giving us the option to add or remove them very easily.

The site now also has a very robust search facility which allows visitors to find the information you require very quickly. We have also made the navigation of the site easier by the use of drop down menus within our popular topic areas.

So please feel free to browse and enjoy the new look site.
